MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — Governor Tony Evers’ lawsuit against Republicans in the Wisconsin Legislature is tied to diversity, equity and inclusion at the Universities of Wisconsin.
The Democratic governor and Attorney General Josh Kaul filed the suit directly with the state Supreme Court this week. They want the court, which now has a liberal majority, to overturn committee actions including the blocking of Universities of Wisconsin pay raises.
Assembly Speaker Robin Vos wanted those raises halted and claimed the lawsuit would jeopardize four percent raises for non-universities state workers.
Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu called the suit ‘frivolous’ and an attempt to ‘limit legislative authority’.
Universities of Wisconsin President Jay Rothman called the decision to withhold raises in order to force elimination of diversity, equity and inclusion programming on campuses ‘unprecedented’.
Rothman said it’s time for the ordeal of blocking the pay raises to end.
