GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) — The Newman Catholic girls volleyball team advanced to the D4 championship match with a three-set sweep of Prentice on Friday.
Set scores were 25-21, 25-10, and 25-15. Newman trailed for much of the first set but settled in for the remainder of the match.
Callie Sobolewski had a double-double with 19 kills and 23 digs. She hit .310 for the match. Ashley Jankowski added 11 kills and 22 digs.
“Once they settled in and they started running their offense the way that we could, that took Prentice out of their game, so I was super proud of the way they did that and they hung in there even though they were down and they kept fighting and battling,” Newman head coach Betty Lange told WAOW TV after the match.
Newman will play Wonewoc-Center at 9 AM on Saturday for the state title. The first serve is set for 9 AM.
Tonight is also week 3 of the high school football playoffs. Here is a schedule of games involving area teams:
Wrightstown vs Witt/Birn at Stiehm Stadium at DC Everest
Stratford at Auburndale
Edgar at Boyceville
