MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – First, Milwaukee Brewers manager Craig Counsell was hired away by the Chicago Cubs. They may now be in the process of rebuilding.
The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal stated that Milwaukee is “open to moving virtually any player on its roster” after Craig Counsell joined the Cubs. “The process has officially begun, with the Milwaukee Brewers sending outfielder Mark Canha to the Detroit Tigers in exchange for a pitching prospect. “Given the Brewers’ current situation, continuing the demolition makes sense. It might even be the correct path.”
Though it’s unclear if players like Christian Yelich or Corbin Burnes would be off-limits, Rosenthal’s article gave the impression that everyone was on the table. Yelich’s contract with Milwaukee runs through 2030 and is set to make $24 million in 2024. Meanwhile, Burnes is set to become a free agent after next season and will earn $10 million in 2024.
An illness that affected many attendees caused Major League Baseball to cancel its annual General Managers Meetings in Scottsdale, Arizona, where trades are usually discussed and sometimes even made.
As reported by Stephanie Apstein of Sports Illustrated, the MLB decided on Wednesday to postpone the remaining meetings because “more than 30” individuals became sick.
