WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A Central Wisconsin man will serve prison time for his 5th OWI.
Jonathan Huff will spend a total of 4 and a half years in the state prison system, including 18 months of incarceration and three years on probation. His driver’s license will also be revoked for three years, and he will be required to install an ignition interlock device on his vehicle.
OWI charges stem from an incident in September 2021 where Huff was found asleep in his vehicle as it was parked in a stranger’s driveway. Officers woke him up by tapping on the window, and when he came to they said he appeared confused and thought he was in Merrill. Instead, he was in the Village of Maine.
Officers say the car was shifted into reverse and Huff had his foot on the break. He underwent a field sobriety test and failed. A K9 officer found 11 grams of meth in his possession.
As part of a plea deal nearly 20 additional charges were dismissed but read into the record. Those included resisting or obstructing an officer, possession of drug paraphernalia, burglary, and criminal property damage.
He was given credit for almost one year already served in jail. Additional terms of the sentence include the installation of an ignition interlock device on all of his vehicles, absolute sobriety from drugs and alcohol, and fines. He will also have his driver’s license revoked for three years.
