Fox Valley Technical College will host its 72nd annual Farm Tour on Wednesday, November 29. This year, the event will be hosted at the Appleton Main Campus and include virtual tours of two local farms.
The event is open to anyone interested in effective agriculture production practices, new dairy calf housing and milking facilities, and technologies such as on-farm digesters. Each dairy will share a visual presentation with time for questions and open discussion.
Host farms are Strassburg Creek Dairy in Wittenberg, Wisconsin, which includes 1,000 cows plus a conventional milking parlor and 12 Lely automated milking robots. The other host is Wayside Dairy in Greenleaf, Wisconsin, which includes 2,000 cows and is currently building and implementing an on-farm digester.
“The Fox Valley Technical College Farm Tour is a long-standing opportunity provided to the community,” explains Sarah Mills-Lloyd, department chair for Horticulture, Farm Operations, Farm Business Production Management and Agriculture Automation. “It will provide an opportunity to connect with the farmers and learn about their farming practices. The goal of the event is to provide the community with an opportunity to experience and learn the current trends in the agriculture industry.”
The event runs from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. It is free to attend but registration is requested.
