WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU) — A man accused of trying to suffocate a woman, then telling her to call police for him will not go to trial until his mental condition improves.
Tommy Ehrisman was in court on Monday where a judge put his trial on hold based on the results of a mental competency evaluation, saying the 65-year-old will likely require involuntary medication.
Ehrisman is facing one count of attempted homicide and strangulation/suffocation. Both counts carry a domestic abuse modifier.
According to police, Ehrisman tried to suffocate a woman with a pillow, but then stopped and told the woman to call for help. He told officers he had been planning the incident for two days and was also having thoughts of self-harm.

Court officials say it will likely take 12 months for Ehrisman to be competent for trial. No further court proceedings have been scheduled as of Tuesday. Ehrisman has been committed to the state Department of Health Services for treatment.
