MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – Abraham Toro, an infield utility player, was traded to the Oakland Athletics by the Brewers for right-handed pitcher Chad Patrick.
Before being moved to the Oakland A’s at the 2023 trade deadline in exchange for former Brewer Jace Peterson, Patrick, 25, was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the fourth round of the 2021 MLB Draft.
According to MLB.com’s Adam McCalvy, Patrick made 42 appearances, 36 of which were starts, with a 4.96 ERA and a 9-13 record over three seasons. After spending the last part of 2023 at Triple-A Las Vegas, he struggled there, going 0-3 with a 7.89 ERA in six appearances (five starts). With 176 innings pitched, he has struck out 189 batters, demonstrating some potential for swing-and-miss pitches.
The Brewers acquired Toro in the Kolten Wong-Jesse Winker trade with the Mariners. Toro was an Astros fifth-round selection in 2016 and spent most of 2023 with Triple-A Nashville despite having a solid performance in his little MLB action, including two home runs, nine RBIs, and eight hits in just nine games.
Before Friday’s deadline, Toro was a non-tender candidate since he had no minor-league options left.
