STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — A false alarm triggered the emergency lockdown system at the Stevens Point Area Senior High this morning.
Police were called to the building at about 8:30 AM to find students and staff in lockdown mode. They cleared the building and conducted a sweep, finding no credible threat.
The lockdown was lifted by 9:15 AM and classes have resumed as normal. The district’s building and grounds department is now working to determine the cause of the false alarm.
District leaders emphasize that “at no time today was anyone in danger.”
“While this was a false alarm, we understand the anxiety a situation like this can cause for our families, students, staff, and community. Please know that our top priority is the safety and well-being of our students and staff,” read a joint statement from the Stevens Point Police Department and Stevens Point Area School District.
The UWSP Police Department, Portage County Sheriff’s Office, Stevens Point Fire Department, and Wisconsin DNR also responded to the incident.
