TOMAHAWK, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — Hunters from near and far came out to Tomahawk to celebrate the start of gun deer hunting season at the 57th Annual Venison Feed.
Everybody showed out for the event from local law enforcement to the men and women trying to go and get themselves a buck.
DNR Outdoor Skills Trainer Kayla Sasse told WAOW TV hunting is far more than a seasonal pastime. “I have been hunting since before I could actually carry a gun. Going out. I love being outside. I love knowing where my meat comes from … It’s almost like an extension of the holiday season where we all get together.”
Sasse and her family also eat primarily venison year-round.
John Schindler who came all the way from Milwaukee offered up a hunting time that works best for him for anyone else who may want to give it a shot.
“Between 10 [a.m.] and 2 [p.m.] … I don’t think deer are much different than we are sometimes. They don’t necessarily want to be up when it’s cold out.”
Regardless if they get themselves some venison or not, every hunter News 9 spoke with said they were revved up and ready to go.
