MERRILL, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – On Sunday, a Merrill family was displaced by a house fire in the 500 block of East Street in Merrill.
The family was able to safely exit the residence.
The Merrill Fire Department was notified of a structure fire in the 500 block of East St in the City of Merrill shortly before 12:30 p.m. Sunday by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Communication Center.
According to a Merrill Fire Department Facebook post, the initial dispatch information was for a probable electrical fire. Their post stated that Merrill Police were the first on the scene and had blocked the road as well as helped the family out of the house and the next-door residence.
Responding units detected smoke coming from the general vicinity of the reported address shortly after leaving the fire station. The first responding units discovered a considerable fire on the building’s exterior. When the fire crew arrived, the fire had spread across much of the north side of the house.
The fire damage was modest inside the house, but the smoke damage was described as substantial.
Before Merrill Fire Department turned the house back to the owners, the Red Cross was contacted for emergency assistance from the site, and a local Red Cross official contacted the homeowners.
