GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – Following a dominant victory over the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving, Packers quarterback Jordan Love is making his mark on the franchise’s history books early in his career.
According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Love is now the first Packers quarterback in franchise history to have three 3 touchdown games with zero interceptions in his first twelve starts.
Love has also quickly become one of the best statistical quarterbacks in the NFL, especially when he has the ability to make quick decisions. When holding the ball for less than 2.5 seconds, he is 80/109 for 653 yards with 8 touchdowns, zero interceptions, and a PFF grade of 85.3, which is 4th among all NFL quarterbacks this season, according to Pro Football Focus.
“His decision-making in split-second situations,” quarterbacks coach Tom Clements told reporters when asked where Love has improved the most. “Every quarterback that has a good arm, which Jordan does, likes to throw downfield, but sometimes you’ve got to recognize that throwing downfield isn’t the best option on a particular play.”
“You might have a play that’s designed to go downfield, but you don’t get the defense that is best for that type of play; you have to be ready to check it down. Maybe earlier in the year, he held on to the ball a little longer or didn’t check it down at times. But he’s done that more recently, and it’s paid dividends,” Clements continued.
Love’s numbers off-play action were also impressive against the Lions, where he went 10/13 for 150 yards, a touchdown, and a 139.9 passer rating. Similar numbers were seen when he’d throw 10 yards or more, going 8/12 for 151 yards, one touchdown, and a 137.5 passer rating, according to Pro Football Focus.
