WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) – During a Monday morning campaign rally in nearby Portsmouth, a man was arrested for texting death threats to Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy.
According to the New York Post, in a text message dated December 8, Ramaswamy’s campaign informed Tyler Anderson, 30, from Dover, New Hampshire, of a Portsmouth campaign event, according to the Department of Justice.
The DOJ charged Anderson with transmitting in interstate commerce a threat to injure the person of another and took him into custody after his response to the campaign text stating, “Great, another opportunity for me to blow his brains out!” and adding that he was “going to kill everyone who attends and then f*ck their corpses.”
“We are grateful to law enforcement for their swiftness and professionalism in handling this matter, and we pray for the safety of all Americans,” a Ramaswamy spokesperson told The Post.
Anderson is due in federal court this afternoon. In the event of a conviction, he could be subject to a $250,000 fine and five years in prison.
With the state’s primary on January 23, Ramaswamy is currently polling at 7% on average in New Hampshire, according to RealClearPolitics.
