MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — Democratic Governor Tony Evers says he will oppose any more attempts to toughen abortion restrictions.
The Governor’s comments come after Assembly Speaker Robin Vos told multiple news outlets he was planning on introducing new legislation to restrict abortions after 12 weeks of pregnancy.
Wisconsin’s abortion laws are in flux after a judge ruled that an 1849 law that was being used to prohibit abortions doesn’t apply to consensual medical abortions.
The ruling is likely to come before the State Supreme Court; which now has a 4 to 3 liberal majority.
Evers says the last two statewide elections, which have gone in favor of Democrats, is proof that residents want to “make their own reproductive healthcare decisions.”
