WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – According to an email sent by MCHS to personnel, the hospital is furloughing 3% of its workforce in an attempt to “achieve financial turnaround goals.”
The email response from the Health System states that the majority of the layoffs are in non-patient-seeing departments, including leadership positions.
These furloughs were the result of “a comprehensive review of our service and labor resources, which account for more than 50% of the Health System’s total operating costs,” according to the email.
The email further discussed the examination of those resources and revealed the reorganization of several MCHS services “at the system and regional level to provide care in a more efficient manner and to reduce costs.”
This decision comes only a matter of weeks after high-level leaders within the Marshfield Clinic Health System will be taking pay cuts in 2024 to help stabilize the healthcare provider’s finances and ended merger talks between Marshfield Clinic Health System and Duluth, Minnesota-based Essentia Health.
