MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU) – The City of Marshfield is reminding people not to spend this winter near stormwater retention ponds in light of the recent cold weather that swept through the upper Midwest.
A press release states that although these ponds may seem frozen in the winter, unstable ice surfaces are dangerous due to constant water movement beneath the ice and temperature fluctuations outside.
The city stated that they have thought of enclosing the stormwater ponds with fencing. But in the event of an accident or disaster, it would be difficult for emergency personnel to access and not be economically viable.
Everyone is advised to exercise more caution and avoid these ponds altogether to keep themselves, pets, and children safe.
