WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) – The new AP college basketball poll is out, and the Badgers have nearly dropped out of the top 20 after suffering a tough losing streak, while Marquette continues to rise in the poll.
After losing to the Michigan Wolverines, who are one of the poorest teams currently in the Big Ten, 72-68, the Badgers had another difficult week as they were also destroyed 78-56 by the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, causing them to fall nine places in the rankings.
Wisconsin dropped to No. 20, which is their lowest ranking in the previous six weeks since they were at No. 21 in Week 9. The Badgers will look to get back on track this week when they face the Ohio State Buckeyes at home on Tuesday and then travel to Iowa to play the Hawkeyes over the weekend.
Meanwhile, the Marquette Golden Eagles flew up three spots to number four in the poll this week after winning their seventh straight game after defeating St. Johns 86-75. The Golden Eagles were led by guard Tyler Kolek, who scored 27 points while shooting 5-8 from three-point range.
Kolek appears to have gotten back to his 2023 form, with his latest performance giving him his third straight game with 15 or more points. He is now averaging 15.6 points per game along with 7.5 assists.
