WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – HSHS will be closing its hospitals in Eau Claire, and Chippewa Falls, leaving thousands without close medical care. Aspirus Health is looking to pick up the slack.
President and CEO Matt Heywood said it’s all about helping patients, no matter where they live. Heywood said, “As the Chippewa Valley is going through some of this transition and change, we realize that there might need to be additional access for ED, beds, surgical services, ancillary services, and primary care clinics and we have a number of those resources on the Eastern part.”
Aspirus will be adding more inpatient beds at their hospitals in Stanley and Medford, and will also be accepting patients at their Gilman, Owen, and Thorp clinics.
Heywood said, “Our team was foresightful, we saw the need for this to happen, and what we did was we started to look probably for the last couple weeks to open up additional beds, open up additional surgery capacity, open up additional ancillary capacity.”
But in order to treat more patients, Heywood said it’s important to hire more people so current staff don’t get overwhelmed. He said, “We’re always looking to hire. We’re always looking for physicians, advanced clinic practitioners, nurses, and other ancillary and support staff.”
