MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU) — Fire crews were called to Waste Management’s Marshfield transfer station on Monday when fire broke out in a pile of rubbish.
The call came in at about 5:15 for a report of “large amounts” of fire and smoke at the station. Crews were able to knock down the flames within a few minutes using hand-held hoses.
Waste Management staffers used a payloader to spread out the pile while crews put out hotspots.
No injuries were reported in the incident. The transfer station did sustain some damage including heat stress marks on the exterior walls.
The fire was likely caused by a load of hot trash and was not intentional.
