MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – The male cougar at Wildwood Zoo, Thunder, has died.
The Wildwood Park & Zoo announced the sad news on its Facebook page.
Thunder had been struggling in recent months with fatty liver disease and was no longer comfortable. The decision to euthanize the cougar by vet team and zoo staff.
Thunder was 16 years old and surpassed the average lifespan of cougars by a decent amount with the life expectancy at 12 years. Thunder arrived at Wildwood Zoo in 2008 with his sister, Star.
The post also said, “He was a favorite by many for his majestic looks and sweet demeanor with a flair for the dramatic. He will be deeply missed by all. Star is currently doing well but will be closely monitored and supported by zoo staff as she makes this transition.”
