MADISON, WI (WSAU) — The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is asking residents to avoid outdoor burning this weekend.
The alert comes as many portions of Wisconsin have gone weeks without measurable perception. Some Northwood areas haven’t seen rain or snow in more than 30 days.
Anyone spending time outdoors is asked to limit campfires or bonfires. Large-scale fires like those from a burn pile or brush fire could easily get out of control or spread through embers.
The Wisconsin DNR has responded to 244 fires burning over 500 acres in 2024. Eighty of those fires have occurred in the last week. The majority of these recent wildfires have been related to debris burning.
