MERRILL, WI (WSAU) — Two juveniles are facing possible charges after they were caught damaging mailboxes along County Road JJ in Lincoln County.
Sheriff’s officers received a call from a property owner on Sunday who said their mailbox had just been damaged by a male hanging out the window of a passing vehicle. The caller reported that other mailboxes in the area were damaged as well.
The caller’s husband followed the vehicle, staying in contact with officers until a deputy stopped them. The driver was identified as a 16-year-old from Merrill. The passenger was a 15-year-old who was also from Merrill.
Names of those involved will not be released due to their age. Officers add that they were turned over to their parents after processing and charges against them are pending.
Officers know of at least 35 mailboxes in the Towns of Rock Falls and Merrill that were damaged in the spree. Anyone who hasn’t reported damage is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office immediately.
