MERRILL, Wis. (WAOW-WSAU)– An early morning fire leaves a family displaced after their home was declared a total loss.
Officials with the Pine River Fire Department say the working fire alarms may have saved a family’s lives. Early Saturday morning, first responders were alerted to a structure fire at a single-story home on Town Line Road, located in Merrill. Flames were reported to be coming out of the front of the home along with the roof.
The fire started in the bedroom of the three-month-old girl. Fortunately, on that night the parents chose to bring the child into their bedroom which was located on the opposite end of the home.
In a statement from the department, Captain Mike Caylor says, “It is the opinion of the Pine River Fire Department that if not for the proper use of and maintenance of smoke detectors, the community would have woken up to a very tragic event today. Thankfully, the homeowner did things correctly and it very likely saved their lives. ”
No injuries were reported.
