NEILLSVILLE, WI (WSAU) — Some new information has been released regarding the arrest of a Clark County Sheriff’s Sergeant, though questions remain about how the case is being handled.
Jeremy Chapman is accused of blackmailing an unnamed student into sending him nude photos via Snapchat, according to documents obtained by an Eau Claire TV station. The victim said they didn’t know who they were sending pictures to, and added that the person tried to meet them in a locker room.
Investigators used digital data including IP addresses to determine messages sent to the victim came from areas in Spencer and near the Loyal City Hall.
Champman was arrested at his Spencer home on Wednesday, June 12th. He has not been formally charged in the case but investigators say he could face counts for sexual exploitation of a child, child enticement, threats to injure or accuse of a crime, and threats to communicate derogatory information. He is free on a $10,000 bond after posting the first $2,500 in cash.
It’s unclear when he will return to court or if he is on leave from his job with the Sheriff’s Department. Officials have added that Clark County is cooperating with the investigation.
The arrest was announced last week though Champman was not identified as the subject of the arrest until five days later.
Word of the arrest came from officials in Taylor County, who investigated along with officers from Marathon County and the state Division of Criminal Investigation.
