RHINELANDER, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — The Oneida County Planning and Development Committee has voted to suspend a conditional use permit for the Minocqua Brewing Company.
WAOW TV reports the committee has given owner Kirk Bangstad 90 days to meet the conditions of his permit, which they say have not been met. One specific issue involved the parking lot, which is required to be paved.
The meeting was reportedly tense, with Bangstad removed from the room early in the discussion. Bangstad often finds himself at odds with leaders in Minocqua and Oneida County, claiming they hold his Democratic views against him and his business.
Leaders said if the violations are corrected before the three-month window is up he will be allowed to open the beer garden. If they aren’t, they may consider taking action, up to and including the cancelation of his conditional use permit.
Though members of the committee said they do not account for his political affiliation when making these decisions. Instead, the vote was based on his business not meeting the conditions outlined as part of his request to open a beer garden.
