ARLINGTON, United States (Reuters) – Christian Pulisic and Folarin Balogun scored first-half goals to lead the U.S. to a dominant 2-0 victory over Bolivia in the Group C opener at the Copa America on Sunday.
The hosts were quick out of the blocks and opened the scoring in the third minute as captain Pulisic struck an unstoppable curling shot into the top corner following a well-worked short corner.
Pulisic then turned provider in the 44th when he picked up the ball near the halfway line and drove at Bolivia’s defence before setting up Balogun, who slotted into the bottom corner.
As the U.S. gradually took their foot off the gas in the second half, they missed some goal scoring opportunities, with substitute Ricardo Pepi squandering a couple of promising chances.
Uruguay and Panama, the other teams in Group C, face off later on Sunday in Florida.
