WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — Officials are investigating a train derailment near Wausau.
WAOW TV reports that the incident happened Friday night on the city’s west side. Sheriff’s officials have confirmed that the train was not carrying toxic materials.
The cars were reportedly loaded with non-toxic roofing pellets.
The Fox Valley and Lake Superior Rail System operated the train. They are working with the Department of Natural Resources to investigate the incident.
The derailment did not block any roadways or put any homes in danger. It’s unclear if anyone was injured in the incident. However, officials with Marathon County have confirmed that the rail and DNR did not request public safety officers to assist with the incident.
