WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A Wausau couple has been charged with child neglect after investigators found signs of child neglect and unsafe living conditions inside their west-side home.
Cassandra and Anthony Huck are accused of two felony counts for neglecting a child under the age of six after officers found one of their children wandering from their home on numerous occasions.
Wausau Pilot and Review reports that the incidents have been spread over seven years, dating back to 2017. In at least one of the incidents, the child was found walking naked near the Thomas Street Dairy Queen. Another report indicated that she left the home on a 32-degree day in December wearing a T-shirt and leggings.
Investigators also noted that they found dog feces in the home on numerous occasions. Most of those cases were routed to social services, with officials enlisting family members to help the couple care for the children.
The case also has ties to an attempted homicide investigation involving Richard Mason, Cassandra’s ex, who is accused of shooting Anthony in 2022. Officers say they noticed some unhealthy living conditions in the home as they were investigating the shooting. Social workers temporarily removed the children from the home following that incident.
Mason is jailed on a $1 million bond and will return to court next month for a pretrial conference.
Both Cassandra and Anthony are scheduled for court appearances on Wednesday. Court records show they have enlisted an attorney to represent them in the case.
If found guilty they face up to seven years in prison.
