AMHERST, WI (WSAU-WAOW) The Portage County Sheriff’s Office say law enforcement are still in a standoff with an armed and dangerous man in the Amherst area as of 3pm Thursday afternoon. Law enforcement has been on the scene of a home at 450 Mill Avenue.
Police say the man is Jeffery Miller, 32, of Sauk County. He is wanted for an attempted homicide of a law enforcement officer.
There’s a shelter-in-place order for people who live in the area. They’re being told to stay indoors and to stay away from windows.
Power has been turned off in the area.
