BRASILIA (Reuters) – Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has requested a phone call with his Brazilian counterpart Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva amid tensions over a contested election, a Brazilian source familiar with the matter told Reuters on Thursday.
The news was first reported by local TV channel GloboNews. No date has been set for the call, according to the source.
Lula, the source said, will have a call on Thursday with Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador and Colombian leader Gustavo Petro to discuss the situation in Venezuela after fiercely disputed presidential elections reinstated Maduro.
