WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Voters saw a limited number of contested primary races on Thursday’s partisan primary ballot, but everyone had at least two referendum questions to consider.
Both questions involve how federal funds can be distributed and stem from the unprecedented COVID-19 relief dollars the state distributed during the pandemic. Current state law allows the Governor to dish those out at his pleasure, but lawmakers have been hoping to change that through the state constitution.
Proponents of the measures say they would give voters more of a say in how the funds may be distributed, but opponents worry about lawmakers holding up funds in an emergency.
As of 9:20 PM both of those referendum questions are projected to fail, with “NO” votes accounting for 58% and nearly 60% of ballots counted.
