PRAIRE DU CHIEN, WI (WSAU) – Former president Trump’s upcoming Wisconsin rally has been rescheduled to indoors as the Secret Service continues to suffer from staffing issues.
According to CBS News, the U.S. Secret Service recommended Saturday’s event be moved to the Prairie du Chien Area Arts Center instead of the outdoor rally that was scheduled to take place on Saturday at a local airport due to the agency needing staff to attend the United Nations General Assembly in New York this week. Doors will open at 11:30 and the former President is expected to begin giving remarks at 2:30.
The outlet spoke to a senior Secret Service official about the decision saying, “Our personnel and equipment are being pushed to their limits to sustain the current operational tempo. This proposed Wisconsin event also occurred during the United Nations General Assembly, where the Secret Service is responsible for the safety and security of over 140 world leaders amid a challenged global threat level.”
The Trump campaign reduced the number of its outdoor events following the initial attempt on former President Trump’s life in Pennsylvania and Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi told CBS that Trump is “receiving heightened levels of U.S. Secret Service protection and our top priority is mitigating risks to ensure his continued safety at all times.”
President Biden and his family, all previous presidents, vice presidents, their families, and those running to be the next president or vice president are among the dozens of people the more than 6,500 U.S. Secret Service agents are entrusted with protecting daily in addition to foreign leaders.
