MERRILL, WI (WSAU) — The Lincoln Hills Inmate accused of reckless homicide in the death of Corey Proulx was in court Wednesday
Javarius Hurd had a preliminary hearing on Wednesday, which included a video of the incident. Both sides also got the chance to question witnesses including one of the victims.
Hurd is accused of lashing out at a female correction officer by throwing soap in her face as he was returning from outdoor recreation time. He then ran away from the scene, and was chased by Proulx Officials said Hurd attacked Proulx, who fell and hit his head on a concrete surface.
He was declared brain dead at a local hospital and died the next day.
A second inmate, Rian Nyblom, is charged with being a party to the crime of felony murder and battery by prisoners. Investigators believe he gave Hurd the cup of soap that he threw at the first officer. He’s scheduled to enter a plea for those charges on Thursday.
No further court action against Hurd was immediately scheduled. The 16-year-old is being held in the Lincoln County Jail on a $100,000 bond.
