STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — A Wisconsin Rapids man accused of running a man over one year ago has reached a plea deal with the state for one count of aggravated battery.
Court records show Luis Rodriguez-Moreno pled no contest to the charge on Wednesday. Judge Michael Zell found him guilty and dismissed a count of attempted homicide outright, meaning it cannot be considered at sentencing.
The 31-year-old is accused of driving his pickup into another man last November. Investigators say the victim had stepped outside during a heated phone conversation and was run over by a pickup.
The victim was rushed to a hospital for leg and face injuries. Doctors also said he had tire marks on his clothes.
Rodrigeuz-Moreno was later identified as the suspect. He admitted to beating the victim but denied running him over with his vehicle.
The case had been scheduled for Trial in mid-December. That was wiped from the calendar with Wednesday’s plea deal. Sentencing is scheduled for December 18th, where Rodriguez=Moreno faces up to six years in prison and $10,000 in fines.
