WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The Northwoods League has released the 2026 baseball and softball schedules, with the Wausau Woodchucks opening the season with three road games in May.
The Woodchucks will open the season with a two-game series in Madison on May 25th, then visit Green Bay for one on May 27th before hosting the Rockers for the home opener one day later, May 28th.
Wausau will stay home on May 29th for their first game against rival Wisconsin Rapids.
The schedule once again features 72 games from late May to early August, with playoffs scheduled to run from August 9th to the 13th. Wausau will play the bulk of those games against Great Lakes West Division foes Green Bay, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin Rapids, and Madison.
The schedule features home series against Great Plains Division foes, including Thunder Bay (June 9th and 10th), Duluth (July 21st and 22nd), Eau Claire (July 24th and 25th), and the Minnesota Mud Puppies travel team (August 7th and 8th). The games against Duluth and Eau Claire are part of a season-long seven-game homestand from July 21st to the 26th that also includes a scheduled doubleheader with Green Bay on July 23rd.
Wausau will also have a seven-game road trip from June 13th to the 18th, including four games at Lakeshore and a scheduled doubleheader at Eau Claire. A trip across the border to Thunder Bay, Ontario, is scheduled for July 17th and 18th.
The Northwoods League All-Star Break is scheduled for July 7th through the 9th and will be hosted at the Field of Dreams movie set in Dyersville, IA.
Ignite softball will open the season on June 9th in Madison, then host La Crosse on June 11th for the home opener at Athletic Park, as part of a three-game homestand that also includes their first-ever meeting with the Grand Forks Spitfires.
Wausau will play its first games in Grand Forks from July 2nd through the 5th.
A season-long five-game homestand runs from July 7th to the 10th against Mankato and Madison. That includes two doubleheaders on the 7th (vs MAD) and 9th (vs MAN) and a single-game with Mankato on the 10th.
The softball All-Star game will be held separately from the baseball showcase and is scheduled for July 11th in Madison. The best-of-three league championship series will run from August 3rd to 6th.
The third season of Northwoods League softball will feature six teams playing 42 games.
