The Farm Service Agency wants to remind farmers that December 11th, 2020 is an important deadline. First of all, it’s the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program Part Two deadline. Secondly, the 11th is also the deadline to sign up for the Dairy Margin Coverage Program. FSA Administrator, Richard Fordyce spoke about both programs and why farmers need to take this date seriously.
He said that if you haven’t signed up for CFAP 2 yet, you need to contact your county FSA office and let them know if you’re interested. The second round of CFAP covers even more commodities than the first round. He explained how the new program covers commodities like aquaculture, livestock, row crops, wool, specialty livestock, and more. You can see the full list of covered commodities here.
Fordyce also spoke on behalf of the Dairy Margin Coverage Program. He reassured farmers that the program has improved since the 2014 Farm Bill. “It was revised and improved in the 2018 Farm Bill. Congress listened to the concerns of the dairy sector, made some improvements, raised the coverage levels, lowered the premiums, and changed a little bit about how we figure margin,” Fordyce said. He encouraged farmers that haven’t signed up yet to at least take a look at the program and consider signing up before the deadline.
The last day to sign up for both the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program Part Two and the Dairy Margin Coverage Program is December 11th, 2020.
