GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) — Department of Natural Resources officials have confirmed a CWD positive deer was harvested in Shawano County during the 2020 gun deer season.
The deer was taken in the Town of Germania, near the Waupaca County line. The positive case triggers renewed baiting and feeding ban in both counties.
This is the first wild deer to test positive for the fatal disease in Shawano County. A farm-raised deer tested positive in the county back in 2017.
Chronic Wasting Disease impacts a deer’s nervous system and can be highly contagious. It was first found in southern Wisconsin in 2002.
