WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — Voters in the Wausau School District may not be the only ones considering two different referendum projects on their April 6th ballots.
The Wisconsin Rapids School Board has approved two questions that will ask taxpayers for $2 million annually for the next five years for technology and curriculum updates and $34 million for facility updates.
Those will include district-wide security upgrades, a school resource center at Lincoln High School, and a gymnasium at the THINK Academy.
Superintendent Craig Broeren told WAOW TV that the timing is right to bring these questions to the voters because they could be implemented without a significant tax increase.
Wausau’s Board of Education will meet on Monday to finalize plans for two referendum questions as well- one that will fund extra student support positions in areas like social work and health aids. The second would fund nearly $150 million in upgrades to nearly every building in the district.
Voters in Wausau rejected two similar questions on November’s ballot.
