MADISON, WI and ANN ARBOR, MI (WSAU) — The Badger men’s basketball squad suffered a hard-luck setback to #3 Michigan on Sunday, while the men’s hockey team bounced back from Saturday’s loss to split their weekend set with the Wolverines.
In Madison the Badgers built a 14-point first-half lead against Michigan, who was playing their first game after a three-week COVID-19 layoff, only to see coach Juwan Howard’s club score the game’s final eight points to secure a 67-59 win.
D’Mitrik Trice scored 16 points, Aleem Ford had 15 and Jonathan Davis had 11 for Wisconsin.
Isaiah Livers scored 20 points to lead all scorers.
Wisconsin falls to 15-7 on the season, 9-6 in the Big Ten. Michigan improves to 14-1 (9-1 B1G). Wisconsin returns to action on Thursday against Iowa. Pregame coverage begins at 6 PM on WSAU
Both the Badgers and Wolverines were included in the NCAA tournament selection committee’s 16-team Bracket Preview on Saturday.
In Ann Arbor the Badger men’s hockey team washed out the sour taste of Saturday’s loss with a 3-2 win over Michigan.
Dylan Holloway and Roman Ahcan each scored a goal and an assist in the win. Dominick Mersch also scored for Wisconsin.
Cameron Rowe made 24 saves in the win, including eight in the third period.
With the win, the Badgers hold on to second place in the Big Ten standings, two points behind Minnesota and 10 points clear of third-place Notre Dame.
Wisconsin returns home for four of their final six regular-season games beginning Friday night against the Fighting Irish. Pregame coverage begins at 6:30.
