MADISON, WI (WSAU) — Outside of one incident in Milwaukee, the state has made good use of the highly-sought COVID-19 vaccine.
The state’s Department of Health Services says fewer than 2,400 doses of the vaccine have spoiled. That accounts for less than 0.2% of the more than 1.4 million doses that the state has been allocated since the rollout began.
Many of those doses were spoiled in a single incident in suburban Milwaukee where an employee at Advocate Aurora Health was accused of removing the vaccine from cold storage. The accused employee, who was quickly fired, said he removed them from storage because he thought they would alter the DNA of those who received them.

That employee was later identified as Steven R. Brandenburg. He has entered a not guilty plea to charges of attempted criminal damage to property. His next court date is Thursday, March 18th.
