WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — Law enforcement across the nation used Saturday to raise awareness for their no-questions-asked prescription drug disposal programs, like those offered by the Wausau Police Department.
Drug Takeback day allows residents to safely dispose of prescription medications such as pills, ointments, syrups, or eye drops in a safe, environmentally-friendly manner.
“Doing it this way and disposing of them properly, there’s no harm to the environment and we don’t have to worry about those un-used medications getting into the wrong hands,” Wausau Police Department Lieutenant Nathan Pauls told WAOW TV.
Saturday’s event was a one-day opportunity for residents to drop off their medications outside of the usual work week. The Wausau PD does allow for no-questions-asked drug takeback every Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 4 PM at the Police Station.
Residents simply need to dispose of the pills in the bags provided, then throw away the prescription containers on their own.
For drug take-back availability in your area, you are encouraged to get in touch with your local police department or sheriff’s office.
