WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — We’re learning more about a fire that required the attention of multiple crews and the Wisconsin DNR Saturday afternoon and evening.
WAOW TV reports that the blaze destroyed Grundman’s Self Service Garage on Packer Drive. Owner Andy Grundman said it started in a neighbor’s garbage can and spread to his business. By the time it was caught, it had already spread throughout his business.
“I have a policy for storing people’s stuff out here and other people’s vehicles so hopefully everyone else’s stuff is taken care of,” Owner Andy Grundman said.
Grundman adds the business is destroyed along with some of his own collectible cars and other personal items. A GoFundMe account has been set up with the goal of raising $100,000.
According to the GoFundMe page, the business and items were insured but there will be “multiple deductibles” to pay.
Up to eight different crews were on the scene of the blaze on Sunday along with the DNR. The Wisconsin DOT also closed off a portion of Highway 29 and other roads while crews worked.
