Time and time again small towns are coming together to help those in the community and in Denmark it’s not different. Today is Denmark High School’s annual Drive Your Tractor to School Day, but it’s a bit different this time around. Normally, the students like to participate simply because it’s something different and makes going to school a little more interesting, but this year they’re using the event to raise money for a fellow classmate, Jaida Spielvogel who’s battling cancer.
One of the students in charge of the event, Jakob Thyes said that they wanted to do what they could to help with the bills. That’s when they decided to make shirts for the annual day and half of the proceeds are going to the Spielvogel family. Thyes mentioned that this is specifically important to him because of his brother, “It kind of hit close to home because I had a brother that was diagnosed with cancer and he actually passed away.”
So far they’ve raised over $200 for the family. They’re expecting about 42 tractors to be participating in the event this year, which is almost double what they’ve had in the past. Thyes said that he’d love to keep using the Drive Your Tractor to School Day as a fundraiser for someone in the community going through a tough time.
