WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The former manager of the Landmark Apartments in downtown Wausau will serve time in the state’s prison system for stealing rent money and falsifying work records.
Mark R Meurette was sentenced in Marathon County court on Thursday for a guilty plea to one count of theft in a business setting of greater than $100,000 and will serve seven years in prison- two years incarcerated and five years on extended supervision. He will also be ordered to pay back $181,070 plus a 10% surcharge to landmark corporation along with all court costs including a DNA sample.
While on extended supervision Meurette must maintain full-time employment or continuing education or complete nine hours of community service per week.
Court records show he will report to the Marathon County Jail to begin serving his sentence by 4 PM Thursday. He has been given credit for two days already served.
Meurette admitted to taking some $15,000 off the Landmark’s books in February 2020 to pay for drugs. An audit later showed much more was missing. He was also accused of falsifying his timesheet to show he was working when he wasn’t.
