WASHINGTON, DC (WSAU) — Say what you will about the doubleheader and extra-innings rules this year, but they do count the same as full nine-inning games.
The Brewers took game one of a doubleheader in Washington, DC 4-1 on Saturday behind a strong pitching performance from Freddy Peralta. He pitched a seven-inning complete game in the contest allowing four hits and one earned run.
Kolten Wong recorded a double in the win, Christian Yelich added an RBI triple. Avisail Garcia picked up an RBI on a groundout.
Luis Urías, Lorenzo Cain, and Kolten Wong had three hits each in the second game to lead the Brewers to a 6-2 win. Brett Anderson got the start but didn’t factor in the decision after completing 3.1 innings. Brent Suter picked up the win in relief.
The first game was the makeup of Friday’s contest which was postponed early in the afternoon due to rain on the east coast. The second game of the twinbill, which was broadcast nationally as part of Baseball Night in America on FOX, was also played through some light rain.
The same two teams will play again this afternoon. Pregame coverage begins at 11:30 on WSAU.
