MERRILL, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – The Wisconsin Department of Justice will investigate a high-speed chase in Lincoln County. The driver died while being chased by two Lincoln County sheriff’s deputies on Tuesday night.
According to a press release, two squad cars were pursuing a reported stolen vehicle around 5:30pm. During the pursuit, the vehicle left the roadway and crashed. The driver has since died. The location of the crash hasn’t been disclosed.
The release does not specify the cause of death. The name of the victim and the names of the deputies involved have not been released. The deputies have been placed on administrative leave.
DCI is leading the investigation into the “officer involved critical incident” with assistance from Wisconsin State Patrol, Lincoln County Coroner’s Office, Merrill Fire Department, Merrill EMS, Merrill Police Department and DOJ’s Office of Crime Victim Services.
