WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — The Marathon County Sheriff’s Office says three men teamed up to steal a shopper’s wallet at Crossroads County Market in Wausau.
Officers say the trio worked to distract the woman, then take her wallet out of her shopping cart. They later used her credit cards to purchase over $4 thousand in gift cards at Sam’s Club.
A similar incident was reported at another Wausau store, which led to $8,000 in gift cards being purchased with the victim’s cards.
The trio is believed to be driving a black Honda CRV with dealer plates, according to WAOW TV.
Similar incidents have been reported across Wisconsin in communities like Marshfield, Eau Claire, and Brown County.
