SANTA CLARA CAL (MetroSource-WSAU) — Aaron Rodgers and the Packers outlasted Jimmy Garoppolo and the 49ers 30-28 in a Sunday Night Football thriller in Santa Clara.
“Jimmy G” and the Niners took their first lead of the game at 28-27 with just 37-seconds remaining. However, that was more than enough time for Rodgers as he led the Packers on a six-play, 42 yard drive that was capped off by a Mason Crosby 51-yard field goal as time expired. Crosby had two other field goals in the game of 54 and 38 yards
Rodgers finished 23-of-33 for 261 yards and two touchdowns for Green Bay to Davante Adams and Marquis Valdes-Scantling. Adams had 12 catches for 132 yards. Aaron Jones also scored for the Packers.
Green Bay has won two straight after opening the season with a 38-3 loss to the Saints.
Garoppolo was 25-of-40 for 257 yards and two TD’s, but also had an interception and lost a fumble as the Niners fell to 2-and-1. San Francisco rallied from an early 17-7 deficit, but couldn’t hold off Rodgers and the Packers on the final drive.
The Packers will host Pittsburgh in a late afternoon kick this Sunday.
