WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – An elk was spotted wandering the streets of Wisconsin Rapids.
Wisconsin Rapids PD posted a video on their Facebook page, saying the Bull Elk was recently seen on 8th Street.
The post said: “A Bull Elk took a stroll down 8th Street in Wisconsin Rapids. He must have been munching on fermented leaves, cause he jumped the curb pulling out of Walgreens, weaved between two lanes of traffic, then saw the red and blue light and took off through the US Bank parking lot. He’s gonna have some explaining to do when he gets home. Our friendly WRPD Officers gave him a police escort so nobody would crash into him.”
A WAOW-TV viewer also shared a dashcam video of the elk in Grand Rapids from last week.
The DNR also says Bull Elk have been spotted in southeastern and southwestern Wisconsin for the first time in decades. Biologists say younger Bull Elk typically leave the herd in search of new mates.
Elk – nearly extinct in Wisconsin – have been re-established in the state after being imported from Kentucky several years ago.
