STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — The Stevens Point School District has announced that students will not report to class on November 22nd and 23rd as the district continues to navigate a shortage of substitute teachers.
In a letter to parents that was obtained by WAOW TV leaders say no new material will be covered on those days and no assignments will be given.
Superintendent Craig Gerlach says the lack of subs isn’t a new issue. The district has seen low numbers for years, but the pandemic has magnified the problem. As teachers test positive or have to quarantine, it becomes harder to fill those gaps in addition to those who were already scheduled to be out or fall ill for other reasons.
