MERRILL, WI (WSAU) — The man suspected of spraying two Lincoln County Sheriff’s Officers with a pepper or bear spray substance has been identified.
Officers say 54-year-old James J Gallup has been charged with seven felonies including two battery or threats to law enforcement and two counts of use of an oleoresin device on officers.

Gallup, a La Crosse native, is also accused of providing officers with a false name to avoid a felony charge and fleeing an officer. He is being held on a $50,000 cash bond and made an initial court appearance on October 29th. He returns to court on December 6th.
